Post-surgery scoliosis

Back at home

I’ve now been home for exactly 2 weeks and a lot has changed in that time. When I first came home I kept wishing I was back in hospital because I didn’t know how I could do it all without the nurses. Once I got home and settled in I realised it wasn’t as hard as I thought. It was obviously very different to being in hospital but I was feeling fine and after a few days it felt normal being back at home.

I never thought I’d say it but after 2 weeks I’ve actually have started getting a bit bored at times. There’s only so much TV and movies you can watch.

So now I’m feeling fine again I’ve started to try to get back to normal by doing some school work. Just a little bit to start off with and working my way up to eventually going back to school.

I’ve also started doing a lot more physio and each day I’m getting more and more movement. I went out the other day for a walk and ended up walking 2.5 km. Now I’m just working on building up the distance so I can keep walking more and more each day. Talking about physio, we called my past physio and asked when I should come in to fix some small things like my shoulder blade placing which may take a little longer to turn straight like my spine and she suggested I come in after my appointment with the surgeon which is in June.

Last Monday I went to my gp and got my wound checked. I was amazed by how clean it was. She said it was looking fantastic but she put an extra clear waterproof bandage on top just to be careful which I’m getting taken off on Monday.

I’m really happy with how much progress I’ve made since surgery and how well my recovery is going. Based on what I’ve read I expected my recovery to be a lot harder but I guess everyone’s different. Now I just need to continue what I’m doing and keep getting better just as I am.
