Paynesville Adventures

This past week I’ve been on school holidays so as I was off my family and I went away to Paynesville for 5 days. I’d never been before but I really enjoyed it. Paynesville is about a 3 hour drive from Melbourne and is around the Lake Entrance area. It is a very peaceful place and it was a very relaxing holiday. I think if you enjoy some boating or fishing you’d love Paynesville and although my family aren’t that into those things we still had a lovely time. We found a few places to go and things to do while we were there and I thought I’d share them with you.

Fishing

When we first arrived on the Monday it was towards the late afternoon so we didn’t get a chance to do much but we went out and had a walk to look around Paynesville. Then as we stayed right on the water we just went out the front of our place and did some fishing. We did this most nights actually after we had gotten back from the day’s adventures. It was just a nice way to fill in time, although I’m not sure I’m too good as I didn’t catch anything the whole holiday but my dad caught a small one which we put back in the water.

Buchan Caves

On Tuesday we drove about an hour away and headed into Buchan to visit the caves there. We decided to head into the Fairy Cave there as it just sounded a bit more exciting. We arrived way too early and so since I’m now allowed to play sport we kicked the footy around for a while to waste time (no tackling of course.) Once we got into the cave it was amazing. I learnt quite a lot in there and everything I saw was so beautiful. There were a few times in there where I had to bend over as they top of the cave was quite low but I followed what my physio Victoria told me and bent from the hips or bent my knees and it was fine. I really enjoyed the caves and would highly recommend it if you are travelling down around that area.

90 Mile Beach

On Wednesday we stared our day at the 90 mile beach. I was disgusted to find out from google that the 90 mile beach is actually only 88 miles long. It was quite cold down by the shore so we didn’t stay very long. It was a nice beach with lots of shells but there’s not really much more to say, it was just a very long beach.

Raymond Island

After visiting the 90 mile beach we went straight over to Raymond Island. This is straight opposite Paynesville and is about 200 metres away which you get across on about a 2 minute ferry ride (honestly can’t they just build a bridge.) Once we had got across we were on the look out for the koalas as there are around 200 of them on the small island. We followed the koala trail and spotted so many of them. Koalas are my favourite animal so that day was so much fun for me. I would definitely recommend heading to Raymond Island, the whole family enjoyed it and it’s so close to Paynesville if you do want to head over and see many koalas.

Boat trip to Metung

Thursday’s weather was the nicest so we thought it was the best day to hire a boat and head onto the water. It was so lovely and was one of my favourite things we did in Paynesville. We went on about an hour and a half trip over to Metung. I had been to Metung before but it was so many years ago and I was quite young so I don’t really remember it (I must have been better at fishing then thought because I actually caught a fish, with the help of my Grandpa.) While in Metung we did a bit more fishing, my mum and I went for a shirt walk around the town and I can’t forget the amazing fish and chips we ate on a bench right near the water. On the way home on the boat my dad missed the spot we had to go (despite me telling him multiple times) so we went a little further than needed. This also meant that on the way back to where we actually had to go we were going against the waves and it was very rocky, My brother thought the boat was going to flip. If your around Paynesville you should definitely head out onto the water and there are any other places as well as Metung that you can travel to. If you are though remember your sunscreen because when I was on the boat it wasn’t that hot only 23 degrees but I still managed to get burnt.

To finish off I really did enjoy my trip to Paynesville as did the rest of the family. It was a very relaxing holiday where we could just take a break and chill out for a bit. If you are looking for a peaceful place to visit Paynesville is a great destination.
