⭐️Achieving Your Goals⭐️
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We have now entered into January 2019 which means its the time of setting New Year’s resolutions and swearing we’ll complete them but deep down knowing that it’s never going to happen. We all have things we want to achieve this year but it’s much easier said than done. We do goal setting a lot at school and although it’s always very boring, through the hundreds of sessions I’ve had, I have learnt a few tips that will help you stick to your resolutions this year.
-WRITE IT DOWN-
First of all, you should write down your goal. It is always good to get it out of your imagination and onto paper. It’s up to you where you write it down. If you have a diary or planner that is a great place to put it. Leave a page that you can dedicate to your goal/s. A place where you can write what your goal is, how you’re going to achieve it and maybe smaller milestones you want to reach on your way to your goal. In my notebook I have got a page all about my goals. It’s a page I can flick to when I need a reminder of my objective and how I’m planning on completing it.
-SET REMINDERS-
It is often useful to set yourself a reminder on your phone when you want to work on your goal. Obviously, this will only work for certain goals but if you are working on something that requires you to do it every day, week or month it is helpful to have something to remind you to do it. This way you can’t use the excuse of ‘I forgot.’ One thing I downloaded to help me this year was a habit tracker app on my phone. There are so many apps you can get which can help you track the bad habits you want to break and track your good habits you’re hoping to build. You can track when you do these things and also set yourself reminders so that the app notifies you to do this habit.
-TRACK YOUR PROGRESS-
It can be very helpful to keep track of everything you’re doing towards your goal. Once again the habit tracker app is very useful for this. As I mentioned you can track each time you’ve done your habit so then you can clearly see how often you’ve been doing it. However, if you have a goal that doesn’t have a regular, scheduled activity you won’t be able to track it on the habit tracker. This doesn’t mean you can’t track it at all. Every time you make any progress on your goal you can write it down. This helps you keep track of what you’ve done so far and helps you see what your next steps should be.
-SET SMALLER GOALS-
I think one of the most important tips is to set smaller goals. If you have a big, long-term goal it can look quite intimidating, but it doesn’t have to. I mentioned when I told you to write down your goals that you can also write down smaller milestones. This is like setting lots of smaller goals that help you on your way to the main objective. This makes it a lot more achievable, makes it look less intimidating and it will help you stay more motivated as there is always something new your working towards.
If you are interested in using the habit tracker app I’ve spoken about there are millions of great ones you can find on the app store. I use one called HabitShare, just because it allows you to track as many habits as you want for free where many others have a limit before you need to pay.
Hopefully you found these tips helpful and good luck to all of you on any New Year’s resolutions you may have.
