Post-surgery scoliosis

Good Friday Appeal

I know this post is veeeery late, two months late! I really wanted to get this up quickly after Good Friday as there was so much to share that happened that day but I have been very busy! I had exams the last two week which I’ve been preparing for, I’ve done exams in school before, I even did a post about them last year, but this year they’re more important and I have an exam for every subject, making up 40-50% of my total grade. So for the last few weeks I’ve been trying to prepare for my exams and other tests I’ve had so this blog post was put last on the to-do list. Even now, I am writing this at production rehearsals while the cast is rehearsing a scene I’m not in. But I think this blog post will be long enough without all these excuses so let’s rewind two months, back to Good Friday.

I started the day waking up quite early so I could get into the Royal Children’s Hospital by 8am. We ended up getting there early very early so we went to get breakfast before the live broadcast. While we were sitting there a volunteer came up to us and asked us if we wanted to be in the background of Sunrise because they needed more people. We went over to where they were filming and as we were waiting, a worker at the hospital saw my cheque and started asking me about it. As I was talking to him he introduced me to the CEO of fundraising. I spoke to him very quickly but then was taken away to be on Sunrise. Sam Mac (the weatherman) saw my cheque and started talking to me about it. He told me that he was going to get me to be on the live weather cross. Going into the hospital that day I didn’t plan to be on TV but unexpectedly I was on Sunrise.

After being on Sunrise I went back over to talk to the CEO of fundraising about my fundraiser then he introduced me to the CEO of the hospital and the director of fundraising. I told them all about how I raised the money and they were very interested in the tins.

Eventually I was taken over to prepare for the facebook live. They explained everything that was going to happen, showed me where I had to stand and we did a few practice runs.  Finally, we went live! I wasn’t too nervous as I’d already done the live TV cross and had practiced a few questions so I knew what I had to do.  I think the whole thing went pretty well and I got lots of messages later from people who had watched it.

After all the filming was done we stayed around the hospital for a while to see what was happening. I was in the background of Sunrise a few times because why not, haha? We went to see the meerkats again because who doesn’t love the meerkats? There wasn’t much else happening at the hospital as everything was at the exhibition centre this year.

Finally I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who donated!! With your help I raised $10,377.75! Need to change the cheque again haha. Your contribution made an amazing impact. The Royal Children’s Hospital broke their record again this year and their final total was $18,175,467!! A total which we all helped reach. Thank you so much for helping me through this entire fundraising process!!
